Charles B. Webster Detention Center is the main Richmond County detention center. Leaving its active population does not always mean a person went home. The sheriff may release someone after bond posts, after a local sentence ends, because a judge orders release, or after charges are resolved. The same jail action can instead document a handoff to the Georgia Department of Corrections, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or immigration authorities. The destination and release type matter as much as the time the person left.

A person released to the community may no longer appear as a current inmate. An older booking can still turn up by name, but the online inquiry is not a guaranteed archive. Confirm a Webster Release

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office inmate inquiry is the first online check. Its public application offers Recent Bookings and a name search. Search results show last name, first name, race, sex, age, and arrest date. Opening a booking adds the booking number, full name, charges, bond, and disposition. Those details help identify the right person, but the observed interface does not show a clear release date, release time, or release reason.

1. Search the exact last and first name, then compare age and arrest date.
2. Open the likely booking and record its booking number, charges, bond, and disposition.
3. Check Georgia VINE for a custody-change notice tied to the same person and agency.
4. Review the relevant Richmond County court docket for the bond, sentence, dismissal, or release order.
5. Ask sheriff records for the release date, time, type, and destination when the online clues do not settle the question.

Do not treat absence from a current result as proof of release. The spelling may differ, the data may lag, or the person may have transferred. A disposition such as bond or time served is also not a complete jail release record. Match the booking number and court case before drawing a conclusion.

Webster Release Records

Formal confirmation comes from the sheriff's records channels. Use the RCSO open-records request and ask for existing facts tied to one booking. A useful request provides the full name, booking number, arrest date, and any known court case number. Ask for the date and approximate time of release, release reason or type, and receiving agency if the event was a transfer. Webster Releases Run Around Clock

The sheriff's Jail Division page says its Processing Center receives and releases inmates around the clock. This is a distinctive Richmond County fact. A bond or court order may lead to release late at night, on a weekend, or while the public records counter is closed. Processing and public-record access operate on different schedules.

After a release order, staff may still need to confirm identity, check warrants and holds, complete paperwork, return property, and coordinate a transfer or exit. The official source gives no promised release-processing duration. A family member should not infer delay or cancellation merely because the records bureau cannot answer outside weekday hours. For same-day context, the 24-Hour Release List page explains that Richmond County publishes recent bookings, not a confirmed release feed. That booking view may identify the event, but it cannot replace the final release entry.

Webster Campus Capacity Context

The jail division reports that the Webster campus had an FY2024 average daily inmate population of 1,165 and total bed capacity of 1,050, with expansion plans underway. These figures offer context for a high-volume detention operation. They do not provide an annual release count, prove a delay, or predict how long one person will remain in custody.

High daily volume also makes identifiers important. Common names and repeat bookings can produce misleading matches. Use the booking number and arrest date whenever possible. If the court file shows a release order but the sheriff record shows a transfer, the transfer controls the custody question. If both are unclear, request the existing release and movement records rather than relying on assumptions.

Richmond Facility Cluster

Webster is one part of a notably dense Augusta release system. It is distinct from Richmond County Correctional Institution, which holds state and county offenders; Augusta Transitional Center, a GDC residential work-release setting; and Augusta State Medical Prison, a close-security state facility. The Augusta DCS Field Office supervises some people after release but holds no inmates.

Using the wrong roster can hide the answer. A state offender does not become a Webster inmate simply because the facility is in Richmond County. Likewise, a former Webster detainee will not appear in GDC unless state custody later began.

Webster Release Record Match

One person can have more than one Richmond County booking, so the booking number should anchor every request. Match it to the arrest date and court case before comparing a VINE notice or disposition. A bond amount does not prove payment, and an outcome on one charge does not show that every hold ended.

The release record should answer both reason and destination. Bond, time served, dismissal, and court order describe why local custody ended. Community discharge, GDC transfer, another county, federal custody, and immigration detention describe where the person went. Asking for both prevents a transfer from being mistaken for freedom from all custody.

Save the booking number, time of any VINE alert, and matching case number, then request the existing movement entry. Official sources do not promise a fixed interval between court action, jail processing, an online update, and a records response.

An older name-search result is a booking clue, not proof of current detention. Confirm the arrest date and active status separately before asking for the release entry.
