Medical Prison Release Destinations

Augusta State Medical Prison is a GDC close-security state prison with a medical mission. It is not the pretrial booking center at Charles B. Webster Detention Center. Its releases are state-prison releases, not Richmond County jail releases. GDC operates the facility and administers sentence custody.

An ASMP departure may be parole into the community, completion and discharge of a sentence, transfer to another GDC facility, or movement into community supervision. A person may also move to a transitional center before final release. Each outcome leaves a different record. GDC status and prior-facility fields are the first route, while the Parole Board and Department of Community Supervision clarify parole or probation after custody.

Confirm a Medical Prison Release

Open the Georgia Department of Corrections offender search. Search by name, GDC ID, or case number, and compare age and other identifiers. A matching public record may show the facility or former facility, sentence data, status, release-related dates, and a photograph when available. Fields vary. GDC warns that the online information may not be complete and directs users to written verification before treating it as final.

1. Search the person's full name and known GDC identifier.
2. Confirm that ASMP appears as the current or prior facility.
3. Read status and date fields without treating a projected date as an actual discharge.
4. Use the Parolee Database if the record suggests parole.
5. Contact DCS Augusta when local felony supervision may follow.
6. Request written GDC verification when the online record is unclear.

The official GDC ASMP page provides the institution's contact details and mission. A focused inquiry should include the person's full name, GDC ID, and the specific fact sought, such as departure date, release type, prior facility, or transfer destination. Do not ask ASMP to create a custom report. Request an existing offender or movement record.

A useful request asks for the GDC ID, actual release or discharge date, release type, last facility, parole status, and supervising office if those fields are disclosable.

About ASMP Custody

GDC lists ASMP with a capacity of 1,326. The institution was opened in 1983. Those facts distinguish an established sentence facility from the sheriff's intake and release operation. Its medical mission does not change the release-search path: GDC remains the source for custody, movement, and discharge records.

Capacity does not predict one person's release. Sentence terms, parole eligibility, court orders, disciplinary events, credit calculations, and transfers can all affect timing. Georgia is not accurately described with one flat percentage rule. Some cases allow parole consideration, while serious violent felony terms may require every day of the sentence under state law.

ASMP Parole and Discharge

Parole is supervised release granted before a sentence fully ends. Discharge means the applicable sentence custody has ended. Probation is a court-ordered form of supervision and may follow a split sentence. These statuses are not interchangeable. A former ASMP resident can be outside the institution yet remain under DCS supervision.

ASMP is one of several very different Augusta-area facilities. Webster handles county detention and booking. Augusta Transitional Center provides GDC community residential services before discharge or parole. Augusta State Medical Prison is a close-security state prison with a medical mission. DCS Augusta is an office for supervision, not confinement.

The shared geography can cause search errors. Match the facility name on the record before choosing a locator. A local arrest does not mean a later state sentence remains in the county jail system.

Verify ASMP Record Details

Online status is a navigation tool, not a certified statement. Names can match, dates can be projected, and prior-facility data can be misread as current custody. Use the GDC ID whenever possible. Pair the public search with a parole record, DCS confirmation, or written GDC response based on the exact question.

If a court event may have changed the sentence, consult the relevant Richmond County clerk record. Court files can document sentence corrections, revocations, and completion events, but the GDC record shows how corrections staff administered custody. The best confirmation often comes from both sources.

Augusta State Medical Prison Date Records

Georgia uses several dates that should not be collapsed into one promised release. GDC may publish sentence or release-related information. The Parole Board may establish a Tentative Parole Month, which is a month for final review rather than a guaranteed departure day. An actual parole date or sentence discharge is a later event. Transfer from Augusta State Medical Prison to another GDC facility is not release from state custody.

Performance Incentive Credit may reduce length of stay for eligible state offenders who make satisfactory progress in approved education, treatment, vocational work, assignments, and good behavior. PIC is individualized and is not automatic. It also is not a county-jail good-time formula. Misconduct, new case information, program requirements, court corrections, and Board review may alter projected timing.

Georgia is not accurately summarized as a flat 85-percent state. O.C.G.A. section 42-9-45 supplies general parole-eligibility baselines for many sentences, but other laws control serious violent felonies, life sentences, recidivist cases, and statutory exclusions. Parole eligibility only opens consideration. It does not require the Board to grant parole or set a particular release date.
